Cuyahoga

Cuyahoga is a pretty interesting park. Nestled between Akron and Cleveland you are literally surrounded by city while in this park, yet it still manages to pull off peaceful tranquility and impressive wild life.

I met up with my parents while in Cuyahoga and we had several nice days of hiking, biking, and a scenic train ride. The Ohio Towpath trail which runs 81 miles in total crosses through the longest stretch of Cuyahoga with almost 25 miles of biking in the national park. It's a beautiful little ride, and there are a few different bike shops that will rent you a cycle if you don't feel like bringing your own.

Cuyahoga contains the remnants of a canal that used to use donkeys to pull barges of goods up to Cleveland. There are a multitude of now defunct locks that used to be part of this canal system. Unfortunately the one operating lock that is maintained as part of the park system was still shut down due to COVID while I was there.

We did manage to see quite a bit of avian wildlife while here. The red-winged blackbird is one of my favorites and they are all over this park. I was incredibly fortunate to capture one perfectly in flight while here.
